AMERICA is a Christian Nation. Though people may want to believe that it is not, the facts and the truth bear out that we are a Christian nation. Perhaps, it’s the definition of a Christian nation that throws people off. Being a Christian nation does not mean that everyone is a Christian, nor even that a majority of people are Christian. Though, for the record, more than 85% of Americans claim to be Christian. The fact and the truth of the matter is that it’s the Christian ideologies, principles, and practices of the people that have impacted our government systems, our corporate structures, and our social freedoms that root and ground us in a Christian worldview.
America IS a Christian Nation. Our forefathers prayed and used Godly wisdom to frame and structure our government. Evident throughout our halls and chambers, The Ten Commandments, “In God We Trust,” “placing one’s hand on the Holy Bible in a courtroom;” are the physical representations of the founders’ true intentions. Religious freedom was a major tenet of the establishment of the union.
America is a CHRISTIAN Nation. Why even bring up religion? The undercurrent of every phase of development in the founding of this country is rife with references to God, His Providence, and topics taken directly from God’s Word. Deeply thoughtful and thorough were men like James Madison, John Jay, and Alexander Hamilton. The Bible teaches in 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek is own, but every man another’s wealth.” This verse speaks to “freedom with personal responsibility,” “freedom with a caution to use wisdom,” and “encouragement to be helpful to others.” The Bible speak to character and integrity issues in thousands of verses.
America is a Christian NATION. The framers looked far into the future of America; taking into consideration errors of the past. They developed systems that they expected to withstand the ravages of “progressive” politicians. In the first of the Federalist Papers, (U.S.A. founding documents) Alexander Hamilton states, “For in politics, as in religion, it is equally absurd to aim at making proselytes by fire and sword. Heresies in either can rarely be cured by persecution.” We do not seek to ram religion down the throats of the non-religious. As Christians, we seek what is afforded us in the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution… “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…”
